TRAIN RIDE, SOUTH AFRICA

After our time in Cape Town, we took a Premier Train up to Johannesburg. The blog shows the highlights of this two-day journey.

Here is the map of the journey we took from Cape Town to Johannesburg.
Before we left our hotel, William got this shot of one of the loud storks that roamed around squawking every night. They were cute, though.
The Premier Classe entrance at the Cape Town Train Station.

The porters loading luggage onto the train.
A view of the outside of the train just before we boarded.
Our sleeper cabin.

They served champagne and snacks in the lounge car as we set off on Saturday morning.
The bar in the lounge car.
Scenes along the way.

Squatters encampments.

A whole squatters' village.

Lunch at our table in the dining car.

Tea time in our own car.

After we returned from dinner, they had folded down our couches and made them into beds for the night.

Okay, 30 hours on the train got really long (we were delayed by four hours because of engine trouble).

Good thing we packed snacks, as we didn't arrive in Joburg in time for lunch as promised.

The white on this hill is from mining (not snow).
